Virginia Peckham is a writer, artist and designer. She worked in New York City and its environs for more than 25 years, and now lives and works in a studio in Rockland, Maine with her husband, the artist Hugh Gumpel.

Currently she works as a grant writer for Pen Bay Healthcare in Rockland. She has written articles and reports for philanthropic organizations, including the Ford Foundation, the Council on Foundations, New York Regional Association of Grantmakers and the Conference Board. She has contributed magazine articles to Foundation News and Commentary, Benefits and Compensation Solutions, and Curriculum Administrator.

She is the author of Grantmaking With a Purpose: Mission and Guidelines, published by the National Center for Family Philanthropy. She also designed, and wrote the essay for, a museum catalogue - New Artists, New Drawings, published by the Lyman Allyn Art Museum in New London, Connecticut.

For three years she was managing editor of, and a contributor to, Drawing, the international journal of the Drawing Society, based in New York. She also worked as an editor on The Illustrated Bartsch for Abaris Books. Previously she was publications editor at the Museum of Broadcasting (now the Museum of Television and Radio), supervising production of the museum's exhibition catalogues and other publications.

She has exhibited her paintings, watercolors and drawings in New York City, Westchester County and Long Island. Her work can be found in private collections. She has also published cartoons and portraits in magazines and on the Web. She studied at the National Academy School, the Art Students League and the School of Visual Arts in New York City.
